Care
Every ring is 14K gold plating over a brass body, finished with a protective e-coat. They are made to be worn every day — and a few small habits are what keep the finish looking new.
The one habit that matters most
Put your ring on last and take it off first. Perfume, hairspray, hand cream, sunscreen and hand sanitiser are the fastest way to dull gold plating. Let anything you apply dry completely before the ring goes on.
Take it off for
- Swimming — chlorine and salt water both attack plating
- Showering, baths and washing up
- Sport, the gym, and anything involving grip or impact
- Cleaning, especially with bleach or bathroom products
- Sleeping
Brief contact with water won't ruin anything. Prolonged or repeated contact will.
Cleaning
Wipe the ring with a dry, soft cloth after each wear — this alone removes the skin oils and residue that do most of the damage. If it needs more, use a barely damp cloth and dry it immediately.
Never use silver polish, jewellery dips, ultrasonic cleaners, toothpaste or any abrasive. They are designed to remove a microscopic layer of metal, which on a plated piece means removing the gold.
Storage
Store the ring in the presentation tube it arrived in, away from heat, damp and direct sunlight. Keeping it separate from other jewellery prevents the scratches that let wear start.
What to expect
Plating is a surface rather than a solid metal, so what it touches decides how long it stays bright. Follow the habits above and the finish holds for years. Skip them — water, cosmetics, sport — and it dulls far sooner. That is the whole difference.
